Herbert and the Missing Sock

1. 1. Two Socks Go In

   Herbert begins an ordinary wash in the Laundry Room. Among everything else is a clearly matching pair of socks. He remembers both of them going in.

2. 2. Only One Comes Back

   When the wash is finished, one sock is waiting without its partner. Herbert checks the drum again and becomes quietly, nostalgically serious about the disappearance.

3. 3. A Case File Is Opened

   Gobii records the incident as “The Great Sock Mystery.” Herbert explains that socks have always had a strange habit of disappearing, even back in the old days.

4. 4. The Flat Starts Searching

   The search spreads from the Laundry Room to baskets, corners and the Hallway. Everyone develops a theory, but nobody finds the missing sock.

5. 5. Suspicious Little Clues

   A loose thread, a little lint and a damp mark all look promising for a moment. None of them proves anything. Herbert remains calm, but treats every clue with the gravity of an experienced investigator.

6. 6. A Sock Is Found

   The Flat celebrates when a lone sock finally turns up. Then Herbert compares it with the waiting sock and notices the problem: it is the wrong one. The mystery has somehow become larger.

7. 7. The Case Stays Open

   Gobii files the case as unresolved. Herbert returns to his familiar rumble and promises that the missing sock will turn up eventually. Somewhere nearby, just out of the Flat's notice, a small piece of fabric peeks from an unexpected hiding place.

When one sock disappears during an ordinary wash, Herbert treats the incident with the seriousness of an old and familiar mystery. Gobii opens “The Great Sock Mystery” case file, and the Flat searches the Laundry Room, baskets and Hallway for clues. A lone sock is eventually discovered — but it is the wrong one. The case remains unresolved, while a small piece of fabric waits unnoticed in an unexpected hiding place.
